Application Fee
The application fee is ₹100 for eligible candidates who are required to pay the fee.
The following candidates are exempted:
- All female candidates
- SC candidates
- ST candidates
- PwBD candidates
- Transgender women
The fee can be paid through available online payment methods such as credit/debit card, net banking or UPI. Once paid, the fee is non-refundable.

Educational Qualification

Apart from the Class 10 qualification, candidates should have:

GDS Salary 2026
GDS employees are paid through the Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) system.

GDS Job Profile
Branch Postmaster (BPM) –
The BPM is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the Branch Post Office and related India Post Payments Bank services. The role also includes marketing postal products and services and managing customer service activities.
A selected BPM has to arrange suitable accommodation for operating the Branch Post Office in the postal village at their own cost.
Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) –
The ABPM assists the BPM in postal operations. Duties can include delivery of mail, sale of stamps and stationery, IPPB transactions, marketing of postal products and other duties assigned by senior officials.
An ABPM is required to reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Branch Post Office.
Dak Sevak –
Dak Sevaks can be posted at post offices, sorting offices, mail offices, transit mail offices, delivery centres and other departmental offices.
Their duties may include mail delivery, handling mail bags and parcels, IPPB transactions and assisting in the smooth operation of the post office.
Working Hours –
GDS are required to work for a minimum of 4 hours and maximum of 5 hours per day, according to the notification. They can be engaged as Sevaks up to the age of 65 years.
Selection Process
There is no written examination or interview for GDS engagement.
Candidates are selected through a system-generated merit list based mainly on their Class 10 marks. The marks/grades/points are converted into marks up to four decimal places for preparing the merit list.
If grades are mentioned instead of marks, the notification provides a conversion method using the 9.5 multiplier.
Tie-Breaking
If two or more candidates have the same merit, the department will use the prescribed tie-breaking order, beginning with date of birth, followed by the specified category and gender-related priorities.
